Moving to Keighley

What newcomers need to know about hills, postcodes, schools and the first week in a Keighley house.

A Keighley street of stone houses on a hill

The town you are actually moving to

Keighley is a valley town with the centre at the bottom and houses climbing on every side. Keighley Town Centre is flats, shops and the bus station. Utley, Long Lee and Ingrow are residential. Haworth and the Worth Valley feel like a different drive, even though they are close on a regional map. Silsden is a small town up the Aire, still in Bradford district.

If you are comparing streets, read where to live in Keighley as well. This guide is about the move itself.

Council, schools and health

Bradford Council handles council tax and bins for Keighley. School admissions are on the council site, and the priority area is not always the estate name. Airedale General Hospital is at Steeton, not in the town centre. Register with a GP using NHS.uk and your new postcode. Keighley Library on North Street has Wi-Fi while broadband is installed.

What to tell the crew

Send both postcodes, the floor, and a photo if the street is steep or the stair turns. Our base is 28 Parkwood St, Keighley BD21 4QR. House moves are the usual job. Get a free quote or call 01535321350. The areas pages cover parking and schools street by street.

Frequently asked questions

Which council covers Keighley?

Bradford Council. Cross Hills, Glusburn and Sutton-in-Craven are the exception. They are in North Yorkshire.

Where is the station?

Keighley station is in the town centre, on the Airedale Line. Steeton and Silsden station is further up the valley.

Do I need a car?

Many people manage with buses and the train. Hills and village buses are the limit. Check the actual street, not the town name.
