Sort before you book the van
Downsizing fails when the van arrives and half the house is still “maybe”. A move from a family house in Long Lee to a flat in Keighley Town Centre or Bingley is not only a smaller crew. It is a smaller stair, a shared hall, and rooms that will not take the old wardrobe.
Walk the new home with a tape measure, or ask someone there to photograph the stair and the largest wall. Then decide what is not coming.
A simple way to decide
- Keep what you use every week and what you cannot replace.
- Offer furniture to family before you pay to move it twice.
- Book the tip or a charity collection for the rest, on a day before the move.
- Do not fill storage with items you have already replaced.
Storage is useful when completion dates do not meet. It is a poor place for a house you have not edited. Packing is useful for the kitchen once you know those cups are going.
The move itself
Flats are covered on flat removals. Tell us the floor, the lift and the building rules. A bungalow can still have a step and a narrow door. Steeton and the villages have both.
